Positional Words are some of those concrete concepts that students need to be familiar with. They are a part of our every day vocabulary, especially in the classroom! “Sit beside her.” “Line up behind the door.” “Walk in front of the building.” These are just a few phrases I can think of for giving directions using positional words, so we must be sure students fully understand their meaning.
This fun, FREE worksheet gives students explicit instructions to practice positional words while also having some fun Under the Sea! To learn about this worksheet and to grab your FREE activity, keep reading! 🙂
One of the best parts about this activity is that students are not only practicing positional words- they are strengthening their fine motor skills with coloring, cutting, and gluing!
I like to have my students color all pictures first. It is always easier to color before cutting out the small pictures and gluing them down.
Next, it’s time to cut! My favorite scissors for little hands are Fisher’s blunt tip scissors. You can find them here:
After they have cut out all of their pieces, it is time to listen up for directions!
Students will listen to each step and glue the correct picture in the white box according to the instructions listed. The directions are simple to follow while identifying the positional words:
